Leather Care Guide

Leather Care Guide

At Salt + Pepper Hide we believe quality leather is made to be used, loved, and enjoyed for years to come. With proper care your leather piece will develop a beautiful character and patina unique to its journey.

Caring for Your Leather

Keep It Dry

Leather is a natural material and should be protected from excessive moisture. If your item becomes wet, gently pat it dry with a soft cloth and allow it to air dry naturally.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Extended exposure to direct sunlight may cause fading or drying over time. Store your leather item in a cool, dry place when not in use.

Clean Gently

Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt. For deeper cleaning, use a leather-specific cleaner and always test on a small, inconspicuous area first.

Condition Occasionally

Applying a quality leather conditioner every few months will help keep your leather soft, supple, and protected.

Store Properly

When not in use:

  • Store in a cool, dry location.
  • Avoid plastic bags or airtight containers.
  • Stuff handbags with tissue paper to help maintain their shape.

Cowhide Care

Every cowhide product is unique, with natural markings and patterns that make it one of a kind.

To care for your cowhide:

  • Gently brush in the direction of the hair to remove dust.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals and cleaning products.
  • Spot clean with a slightly damp cloth when necessary.

Natural variations in colour, markings, texture, and hair patterns are part of the beauty of genuine cowhide and are not considered defects.

Embracing Natural Character

Leather and cowhide are natural materials. Small scars, markings, wrinkles, and variations in colour are signs of authenticity and individuality.

No two pieces are ever exactly the same.

A Lifetime of Use

With the right care, your leather and cowhide products will soften, age beautifully, and tell a story of their own.
